Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a publication fee?

NEWCINEMA/ works with a simple one-time publication fee of US$29 rather than recurring hosting subscriptions. The fee covers professional transcoding, secure streaming preparation, publication on the platform, editorial promotion through Final Cut Magazine, and ongoing hosting of your film for the duration you choose.

Who owns the rights to my film?

You do. Publishing your film on NEWCINEMA/ does not transfer ownership or copyright. You simply grant NEWCINEMA/ a non-exclusive licence to stream your film according to the territories and publication period you select.

Do I keep my copyright?

Yes. You retain full copyright and ownership of your film at all times. NEWCINEMA/ only receives permission to stream your film according to the publication settings you selected.

Can I remove my film?

Yes. You may request the removal of your film at any time. We'll remove your publication and streaming page within 72 hours of receiving your request.

Can I change territories later?

To ensure the accuracy of licensing information, publication settings such as territories and publication duration cannot be modified after publication. If you wish to make changes, simply request the removal of your current publication and submit a new publication with the updated settings.

Do I have to publish my film worldwide?

No. You remain in complete control of your distribution. During the publication process, you decide exactly where your film will be available. You can choose worldwide streaming or limit availability to specific territories, allowing you to respect existing distribution agreements or tailor your publication strategy to your own needs.

Can my film still be screened at festivals?

Absolutely. Publishing your film on NEWCINEMA/ does not prevent your film from being screened elsewhere. However, some film festivals require online premieres or limit public online availability. We recommend checking the eligibility requirements of any festivals you plan to submit to before publishing your film.

How secure is the streaming?

All films are streamed through Whush using professional Vimeo OTT streaming technology. This provides secure, high-quality playback and helps protect your film against unauthorized downloading. While no online platform can guarantee complete protection, we use industry-standard streaming technology trusted by professional content distributors worldwide.

What is Whush?

Whush is the streaming platform that powers NEWCINEMA/. It provides the secure technology used to stream every published film while offering viewers a premium, completely ad-free viewing experience across web, mobile and television devices.

Beyond NEWCINEMA/, Whush is also home to the Auteur Cinema Archive and the official streaming selections of more than 30 international film festivals from around the world, making it an established destination for independent cinema.

How long will my film remain online?

That's entirely up to you. During the publication process, you choose how long your film should remain available. If you later decide to remove it, simply let us know and we'll take it offline within 72 hours.

Can I publish more than one film?

Yes. There is no limit to the number of films you may publish. Each film is treated as an individual publication and requires its own one-time publication fee.

Why should I publish my film on NEWCINEMA/?

NEWCINEMA/ is more than a streaming platform. Every published film becomes part of The International Showcase for Independent Film, receives secure streaming through Whush, benefits from a dedicated editorial announcement in Final Cut Magazine, and reaches an international community of filmmakers, cinephiles, industry professionals and film festival programmers. Our goal is not simply to host your film, but to help it remain discoverable and continue finding new audiences long after its festival journey.

Who is behind NEWCINEMA/?

NEWCINEMA/ is an initiative of The Bigger Screen, an international network supporting independent cinema through more than 30 film festivals, Whush, the Auteur Cinema Archive, Final Cut Magazine and filmmaker support programmes. Built by filmmakers, NEWCINEMA/ was created to give independent films a lasting home beyond the festival circuit.
